Put snap and sparkle into Holiday entertaining... with delectable gourmet foods - and the correct glassware...(from a 1966 newspaper advertisement for Libbey Gold Leaf glassware}
{HISTORY}
Fall foliage season sparks the cocktail cart when it comes to this pair of vintage 1960s lowball glasses. Made by Libbey in a classic shape also known as old-fashioned glasses, whiskey glasses, and rocks glasses, these handsome gold etched oak leaf cocktail cups set just the right mood for serving scotch, brandy, whiskey, rum, rye, and all your other warm-the-spirit-and-the-atmosphere libations.
Sparkly and reflective, the oak leaves float against a dotted pale mint background on the front side of the glass adding visual interest whether in use or standing at the ready for merry times yet to come. It's small details like this that set the scene for a cool weather cocktail party or a seasonally styled bar cart.
As one of the oldest glass manufacturers in America, Libbey's story is pretty fabulous. Originally, it began as the New England Glass Company based in Massachusetts in 1818, but by the end of the century, the company found itself in a new location - Toledo, OH and with a new name The Libbey Glass Company. As true pioneers and innovators from the beginning (they were the first to automatically produce light bulbs in the early 1900s) their insight into technologically advanced design fueled the brand through a century's worth of success. By the 1990s, they were incorporating specially equipped computers to handle glass design on the production line, and still to this day employ the latest technology to bring well-crafted, reliable, and stylish glassware to kitchens around the world.
It's no wonder Libbey has been a favorite for over two hundred years. Classic companies, classic cocktails, and classic cups never go out of style.
