Vintage 1960s Empress China Gaiety Pattern Platter
{HISTORY}
In November 1961, in Hackensack, New Jersey's newspaper, The Record, this dish pattern was a shining star in the holiday circular announcing beautiful dinnerware fit for the Thanksgiving table.
Made by Empress China in Japan in the early 1960s, this hefty and substantial porcelain platter features the Gaiety pattern with a beautiful color palette of lime green, pale pink, butter, sage, coral, lentil green, and tangerine. Living up to its lighthearted, cheerful, and always merry moniker, Gaiety is one of those patterns that travels well not only through the decades but also through each and every season thanks to its bright yet neutral color palette.
A pretty floral server that can look just as eye-catching during the holiday season as it does on the springtime table and the autumn buffet, this platter is both a decorative statement piece in the kitchen and a reliable partner in creating beautiful meals and thoughtful tablescapes throughout the year.
The act and art of setting a pretty table is always more interesting when you have a range of colors and patterns to work with. Gaiety offers quite a lot in that creativity department. Large enough to hold a big, 5lb + roasted chicken with room for trimmings, this color palette looks especially pretty with poultry, seafood, and pasta dishes. Boasting warm tangerines and yellow shades for cozy autumn and Thanksgiving meals, pale pinks and greens for spring, the whole bouquet for summer, and gold, greens, and tangerines for winter, it's a veritable rainbow of color when mixing and matching with other china, accessories, and floral bouquets. In addition to a bevy of florals, lime and lentil triangles and a shimmery gold stripe around the rim help inspire themes for unique year-round festivities.
Practically brand-new in condition, we aren't sure just exactly how many meals this platter may have actually served, but that mystery aside, it's been very well cared for over the past 65 years. That means it is due for a little excitement.
