Vintage 1960's Ballonhoff Portable Household File Box - Green Faux Bois Metal Box
I shall be eternally grateful to the ingenious American manufacturers who have invented a fantastic range of machines and gadgets to lighten our household chores. Genevieve Antoine Dariaux, 1965
Made by Ballonhoff Metal Products in Cleveland, OH, this vintage portable household file box was exactly what you needed to keep all your kitchen papers organized back in the 1960's. This is where you would have stored your appliance warrenty and instruction booklets, your decorating ideas, your kitchen receipts, handyman contacts and your ongoing repair lists. If you were super organized you might have even had one of these boxes for every room in the house, to keep that domicile of yours operating as efficiently as possible.
With its soft green color (a shade that lies somewhere in between the interior of a lime and the interior of an avocado), sturdy metal constitution, stylish faux bois design, and strong handle, this box was meant for toting around and could withstand endless amounts of pickings up and puttings down. In the same way that a picnic basket is useful for on the go food carrying and also in-home storage, this vintage container operates with similar flexibility.
Offering a whole host of possible uses other than paperkeeping, creativity abounds with this box. Turn it into a tool chest for hammers, nails, screwdrivers, measuring tapes, glue and gloves and you instantly have a home care kit at the ready for whenever your kitchen needs a little sprucing up. Use it as a protective strong box for any fragile items you don't want to get damaged or a storage box to keep your space all neat and tidy. It also makes a great garden tool box or a storage container for seeds. Those are just a few suggestions of many possible uses. Vintage containers in all their marvelous shapes and sizes never lose purpose. Half the fun of them is deciding how you will incorporate them into your everyday life!
- Contains original Ballonhoff sticker
- Faux bois design
- Soft yellow green color
- Working latch and handle
In lovely vintage condition. Originally this box came with its own key for locking, which this one does not have but that's no matter because the latch still opens and closes on its own, you just wont be able to lock it. There is some minor rust spots on the bottom of the box and along some of the edges. And there is somesort of blemish or colorful scuff mark on the top of the box near the handle. All of these details give the box its own unique character and illustrate authentic wear and tear. Please see photos.
