{HISTORY}

In the early 1950s, Universal Pottery introduced their Ballerina line - a graceful, elegant dishware collection that came in a variety of designer solids and florals so that buyers could mix and match pieces with ease and confidence.  

Made in Cambridge, Ohio, the Ballerinas were a beautiful addition to the kitchen.  Offering fade-proof designs thanks to their Permacel glazing, this special glaze technique meant that designs would never wash away or fade or scratch off with frequent use. True to their nature and this special technique, Ballerina dishes have withstood the test of time with aplomb, making them look practically just as brand new today as the day they were first purchased over seventy years ago.

Shortly after the Ballerina dinner sets were introduced, Universal added mixing bowls, ice jugs, and range sets to the collection, expanding the charm of the Ballerina patterns to include functional/practical kitchen prep pieces. 

Now very hard to find, this Universal Ballerina mixing bowl in the largest 3-quart 6-oz size features the Moss Rose pattern with its dynamic back shadow effect and a complementary pink, green, and grey color palette. The mixing bowls originally came in a nested set of three sizes - 3 quart 6 oz, 2 quart, and 1 quart 14-oz.

Like their mix and match Ballerina dinner sets, these mixing bowls performed double-duty kitchen tasks, working as both traditional mixing bowls as well as oven-proof casserole dishes.  Very durable and heavy in weight (over 3 lbs!), this mixing bowl has thick side walls and a deep bowl. The rose pattern is featured on both sides, along with the pretty ballerina logo on the bottom. 

Adding an instant dose of history to the kitchen, and a hard-to-find piece to your collection this cahrmer is a pretty addition to the kitchen in so many ways.

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition, this bowl contains no cracks or chips. There is a manufacturing flaw in the glaze near the bottom of the bowl on the exterior in the form of three small marks  that are less than 1/8th inch in size (please see photos). These marks do not bleed through to the interior of the bowl, but due to its compromised glazing, we would not recommend putting this bowl in the oven. The interior of the bowl contains one pencil point-sized stain mark and two smaller underglaze marks that most likely were part of flecks in the natural clay composition. The floral transfers are very crisp, clear, and bright.
