{HISTORY}

Combining the best of the harvest season, this set of vintage Copeland Spode luncheon plates features the prettiest handpainted imagery of fruits and flowers. A design by J. Price for Spode, this set features four matching designs of two - each a variation into and of itself. Arrangements of roses, pears, grapes, forget-me-nots, peaches, strawberries, wax flowers, mums, and peonies fill the center of each plate surrounded rings of embossed daisies and a scalloped rim. So pretty for a variety of different table stylings, these dishes are art pieces as much as functional servers.

That was the beauty of Spode - a name known for its exquisitely detailed craftsmanship and design aesthetic since the 1700s. Made in England during the era when the pottery was known as Copeland Spode, this pattern series was manufactured between 1939-1965, with this set specifically made and handpainted in November and December 1952.

It's fun to think of the holiday tables they must have graced upon first arrival 72 years ago. With all those colors and artistic fall themes, beautifully enhancing the foods and fruits of the season, this must have been a dream pattern for decorators and home entertainers. 

If you are unfamiliar, luncheon plates are about an inch smaller generally than dinner plates, making them functional not only for lunch purposes but also for large salads, ample desserts,  and even dinner too. In absolutely gorgeous condition, these plates are practically brand new and have been well cared for and much appreciated over the course of their 70 years of life. We can't wait to hear how they might enhance your life for the next 70 more.

{CONDITION}

In beautiful vintage condition, these plates contain no chips, cracks, spots or stains, with the exception of one pencil point-sized chip on the rim of one plate that cannot be seen but just felt when you run your hand around the rim. The colors are bright on each plate. Beautiful, very light crazing on the painted areas adds a gorgeous layer of history and patina. Please see photos.
