Vintage 1950s Restaurant Ware Creamer by Jackson China circa 1952 - Floral & Dot Design
{HISTORY}
This vintage red and white restaurant ware creamer, made by Jackson China in August 1952, features a stamped design of dots and flowers. Although the pattern was not specifically custom to Jackson China, it first appeared in their catalogs in the 1930s and 1940s under the identifier P-104, and came in a variety of colors, including brown, black, and red.
Although a hard to find pattern nowadays, other restaurant ware manufacturers including Carr's and Sterling also boasted this pattern in their catalog of designs. At Sterling, it was called Berkley, but at Jackson, the pattern name is unknown.
Also unknown is the specific restaurant or dining facility for which this pretty little creamer was made. But to give you an example of the type of place where it could have been in service, this pattern in the brown and white color variation was part of the dining room dishware set at the Fort Findlay Hotel in Findlay, Ohio in the early 1950s. A 64-room, full-service hotel and motor lodge, the Fort Findlay dining rooms served an array of family-friendly food from fried chicken to roast beef to sugar-glazed ham. And when coffee or tea with cream was on the must-order list, you can bet a creamer like this one headed to the table.
That's the fun thing about collecting vintage restaurant ware. As the jet-setters of the dishware world, they could be found in all sorts of interesting hotspots around the country from hotels to hospitality venues, cafeterias to cafes, dining rooms to dance halls. More often than not, where there was restaurant ware that was conviviality in the air (and at the table).
