Vintage 1950s Mirro Aluminum Coffee Percolator - 12 Cup Capacity with Glass Knob
THE MANY ADVANTAGES OF MIRRO ALUMINUM ARE EVOLUTIONARY RATHER THAN REVOLUTIONARY. THEY ARE NOT THERE THROUGH WHIM OR EXPERIMENT BUT ARE THE RESULT OF CAREFUL STUDY BASED ON KNOWN NEEDS. - MIRRO ADVERTISEMENT, 1920
{HISTORY}
Makers of just about every type of aluminum product from combs to sleds to boats to household goods, Mirro was a trusted manufacturer throughout the 20th century of a wide range of products for the domestic and leisure markets. First founded in 1893 in Wisconsin, Mirro creatively pivoted through each decade after, making products that served consumer needs and demand in an ever-changing marketplace. In 1913, just before WWI, they began making pots, pans, and other domestic "utensils" including coffee pots and tea kettles.
This coffee pot percolator was made in the 1950s and features a glass knob, sturdy handle, and internal basket to hold coffee grounds. With a twelve-cup capacity, it made coffee brewing a breeze.
Nowadays, these are fun pots to not only use at home but also to take on the road for camping, boating, and other outdoor leisure activities. All that is required for that perfect brew is hot water, a campfire, or a hot plate to create a wonderful cup of coffee on the go.
Known for their high-quality designs, early on Mirro gained a reputation for producing the finest aluminum products, a term they would come to use in their own marketing, and one that can be seen stamped on the bottom of this pot. Although Mirro closed its doors officially in 2003, it left behind a trail of well-made products that still hold up to the test of time.
