Vintage 1940s Universal Pottery Cake Plate Platter - Lug Plate - Camwood Ivory Iris Pattern
Iris flowers have long been associated with royalty and power. They also represent the French fluer des lis symbol and carry all their fragrance in their root system...
{HISTORY}
Although this vintage cake plate platter was made in Cambridge, Ohio in the 1940s, its Iris flower imagery has been an iconic symbol of power and royalty around the globe for centuries. Known as a refined and elegant garden beauty, irises contain blousey petals on thick stalks which produce a lovely contrast that is both delicate and strong all at once. Its no wonder they have been associated with women all along!
Part of the Camwood Ivory oven-proof design pattern, this style of vintage plate was also known as a cake plate, a round platter or a tray as well as the less glamorous names of lug plate and chop plate. All that really means is that there are lots of options when it comes to our bouquet of Irises here. Use it for your baked goods, your grill ingredients or your serving needs and you'll have a pretty charmer to help showcase all you can cook up.
