Vintage 1940s Syracuse Econo-Rim Restaurant Ware Plate with Blue Flower circa 1948
{HISTORY}
This rare small restaurant ware plate was made by Syracuse China in 1948 as part of their Econo-Rim series. Destined for hotel and restaurant use, this plate features a beautiful airbrushed flower with bright green leaves set against an ombre paint palette that fades from cerulean blue to creamy white.
Artistic and dramatic, the beauty of collecting restaurant ware is discovering the wide variety of establishments that once utilized custom dishes at their tables. From tea houses to garden clubs, ladies' auxiliary committees to corporate cafeterias, cafes to diners, hotel restaurants to country club bars, restaurant ware said a lot about the type of atmosphere diners enjoyed while eating out.
We searched long and hard to find the culinary venue that this plate may have been a part of, but we couldn't find another exact match or reference. A rare pattern among the Syracuse line, it may have been a one-off piece to test color and pattern as it is somewhat similar to Syracuse's Madame Butterfly and Syracuse Rose patterns, but the flower styles and color palettes are different. So for the time being, it remains a mystery.
Small in size, this plate most likely served salads, bread and/or dessert. Today, it looks beautiful with other mismatched blue and white dishware both on the table and incorporated into displays on walls, shelves, and cupboards.
