Life is to be lived. Katharine Hepburn

{HISTORY}

Ohio-based Crooksville China Company produced a range of beautiful dishware for the consumer market from 1902-1959. Their specialty line of everyday essentials called Pantry Bak-in, usually came in sets, coordinated with matching dishware - a convenience that helped outfit kitchens with all the necessary equipment needed to prepare a good meal whipped up with stylish flair.

This hard to find Bak-in mixing bowl with a needlepoint leaf design was made in the 1940's. It originally came in a set of four nesting bowls, containing graduated sizes from small to large for the economical price of $1.75, which is equivalent to about $32.00 now.  Today, this beauty of a bowl adventures solo, and as you can see from its delicately crazed, slightly stained and cracked appearance, it has had some pretty charismatic times. Here in the Vintage Kitchen, we like to think that this bowl mastered all sorts of culinary conquests and was as prized in the past as it is now.

Loved most dearly for its aged appearance, this is one of those almost antique pieces where its flaws add wonderful aesthetic charm and character instead of detract from it. An excellent vessel for holding onto fruits or vegetables on your counter or in your cupboard, this beauty wears her proof of time travel most proudly. Someone once said scars are symbols. This one  shows us our past:)

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

- Rare pattern

- Unmarked on bottom

- Colors include spring green, pumpkin, brown, grey, orange yellow pine green, cream, and plum

{CONDITION}

This mixing bowl contains lots of lovely patina. It has delicate crazing throughout, various light stains and one crack that measures 2.5" inches in length.  The crack only appears on one side of the bowl but the transferware design is on both sides, so simply turn the bowl around and the crack is no longer visible from the other side. The gold rim is faded and mostly rubbed off and the transferware needlepoint pattern has some rub marks on side (the side with the crack).  Please see photos.

{SIZE}

Measures 8.25" inch (diameter) x 5" inches (height) and weighs just under 3lbs.
