For the hostess with distinctive taste... (from a 1947 ad campaign for Homer Laughlin's Georgian Eggshell)

{HISTORY}

Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, one of Homer Laughlin's most popular dish designs was Georgian Eggshell. Both a body shape and a design style, H.L.'s Georgian Eggshell dishes came in complete sets featuring a variety of different patterns and colors.

This batch of Eggshell dinner plates features the Heather Rose pattern - a beautiful arrangement of ice-pink roses, small purple flowers, and clusters of green leaves and sprigs.  Made in 1948 in Newell, West Virginia, the eggshell style was so named because of its lightweight composition that mirrored fine china and porcelain without the hefty price tag. Delicate like the shell of an egg, all the dishes in this series had an elegant appearance, feminine color palettes, and a fragile yet also surprisingly strong composition.

What is especially great about this Heather Rose pattern is its ability to blend effortlessly with other pink and green floral dishware.  To demonstrate its easy appeal, we photographed it alongside antique English dinnerware from the late 1800s, a midcentury porcelain plate with pink rosebuds, and bright white embossed hotelware from the 1920s. The mix of history adds fresh appeal, while the complimentary colors tie everything together. That's the kind of easy breezy decorating the Eggshells encourage. Fun without being fussy, beautiful without being boring, and creative without feeling cluttered, if you fancy yourself a tablescape designer then Heather Rose would be an ideal pattern.

To appeal to such kitchen creativity, these plates are offered for sale in the shop individually. Whether you take home one or two for incorporation into your already mismatched collection or you start fresh with a solid set that will springboard future inspiration, each plate comes packed with tons of hidden potential ready to be uncovered.

 {SPECIAL FEATURES}

- Matching set of 10  dinner plates available

- Colors include ice-pink, grape, sage, mint, mustard, ivory, white

- All of the plates are in gorgeous vintage condition but two plates have the tiniest (tiniest!) of flaws, so they have reduced slightly in price. Please read more about those in the condition section.

- Each plate is stamped on back with maker's mark, series name, and manufacturing date

{CONDITION}

All the plates are in lovely vintage condition. There are two plates that contain very small flaws - one a smudge mark in the transferware of one flower, and the other in a small chip on the rim that measures less than 1/16th of an inch. Those two plates have been reduced in price to reflect their condition, but again, they are barely noticeable. Please see photos of each of those flaws. Otherwise, this set is in great shape with no chips, cracks or staining.

{SIZE}

Each plate measures just a smidge under 10" inches in diameter and weighs 14oz.
