{HISTORY}

Warm in color palette and beautifully detailed with soft shading and crisp edges, this peach botanical print features the artwork of American artist Georgia B. Caldwell Freeman (1887-1985).

Born in Kentucky and educated in Louisville and New York City, Georgia headed west to California during the early 20th century. There, she was involved in the art community both as a working artist and also as a supporter and champion of other artists. Although her work was well-known and quite popular around the country during the 1940s-1950s, there is not much recorded about her life or her career.

This style of painting with its big, blousy bouquet and colorful background was a signature style of Georgia's. Prints like this one came in a variety of colors  with backgrounds that ranged from deep red to blue, seafoam green to pale peach. Often sold framed in pairs, Georgia's subjects added colorful wall art to all areas of the house and were especially popular in living rooms and bedrooms.

This print was made by John Cooper in 1942. It contains a pastel palette of sage, evergreen, emerald, pale grey, soft white, nutmeg, pale plum, lilac, and silvery blue. Unmated and unframed, with a small discoloration spot on the right-hand side, we love the aged aesthetic of this 85 year old print.  It looks lovely propped against a wall or on a shelf or hanging in casual fashion from a picture wire. If you preferred to frame it, the small stain could be completely hidden by either a mat or the frame itself.

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition, this almost-antique print is very bright and vibrant in color palette. There is a small stain on the right side of the print that measures 3" inches x 1" inch. This stain has created a slight wrinkling of the paper in that area and has left a slight beige color, but does not bleed through to the back or reach to the bouquet. Please see photos.

{SIZE}

Measures 8" inches (width) x 10" inches (length) and weighs 0.3 oz
