{HISTORY}

Made in May 1946, less than one year after WWII ended, these sunny Edwin Knowles dinner plates brought a dash of cheer and conviviality to tables across the country. With their vibrant color palette and interesting mix of florals, this is an unnamed pattern, but its lack of a moniker doesn't mean that it lacks in design.

Featuring an elegant yellow band mixed with cabbage roses and wax flowers around the rim and center, it's a lovely pattern for both everyday use and also more fancy affairs. Especially fun for creating a host of different tablescape styles, this is one of those patterns that can look entirely different from morning to night depending on how you choose to incorporate them into your aesthetic. The cabbage roses mix and match well with a lot of other vintage dishware patterns and the gold scrolls and swags lend a more formal air perfectly suited to champagne soirees and silver flatware. An extra dose of added visual interest appears in the subtle dots, cross-stitch blocks, stripes and swirls that wrap themselves around the rim.

Based in West Virginia between 1900-1963, Edwin M. Knowles made some of the prettiest dishware in the country with patterns that were colorful, feminine, and visually striking. This set of four dinner plates is no exception. Colors include pink, gold, champagne, black, blueberry, lemon yellow, butter yellow, sage and mint - a veritable rainbow of shades.  

So pretty for spring and summer entertaining, garden parties, brunch, and special occasion festivities, these plates carry eighty years of beautiful mealtimes and memories in their floral bouquets. Cheers to celebrating eighty more!

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition. These plates contain no chips or cracks. The gold stripe around the rim is wearing ever so slightly in some places, but can barely be seen. one plate has some staining on the backside, which does not bleed through to the front. There is light crazing throughout, which adds a subtle layer of texture and age.

Each plate measures 10" inches in diameter and weighs 1.2 lbs.
