Vintage 1930s Meito China Hand-painted Porcelain Floral Vegetable Serving Bowl
{HISTORY}
There's a reason why Meito and Noritake dishware are always grouped together and often mistaken for one another at first glance. That's because the founder of Meito China, Kotaro Asuki, was a previous employee of Noritake and assumed many of the techniques and artistic proclivities with which he had become familiar during his time at Noritake.
Made in the 1930s, this vintage porcelain vegetable bowl features all the hallmarks of beautifully patterned dishware that made Meito China synonymous with gorgeous design. Featuring a pale Tiffany blue stripe, gold handles, hand-painted floral swags, mustard-shaded dots, and a lacy grey inner stripe, this serving bowl is enhanced with the two-tone color palette of pale yellow and bright white that was very popular during the 1930s.
A pastel wonderland of vibrant and softly shaded hues, a very useful bowl of this size and shape is an entertainer’s dream when it comes to table settings, thanks in part not only to the variety of colors but also to the elegant overall composition of the design.
Paired with bottles of champagne, white and rose wines, and vases of garden blooms, this vegetable bowl looks just as lovely serving up summer's finest harvests as it does presenting cozy vegetable purees or mashed potatoes on a snowy winter's day. Especially pretty at the holiday season, if you prefer Nordic Christmas colors or Easter pastels, this pattern's color palette has remarkable year-round appeal, depending on how you choose to style it and the festivities in which it celebrates.
