Vintage 1930s Handmade Quilt 34x43 - Needs Repair
{HISTORY}
The joy of a vintage handmade quilt is all in the details. This one boasts a bevy. Let's look...
First, there is the beautiful variety of 1930s-era vintage fabrics that make up the entire overall color palette of mint, cranberry, coral, mustard, periwinkle, almond, pale blue, pink, lavender, and sage.
With patterns ranging from plaid to floral, stripes to dots there is something unique to look at in every square.
Then there are the visible signs of hand stitching - white threads on the front and back where everything has been neatly stitched together in an array of almost straight lines.
The back is lined in bright aqua-colored cotton fabric, soft and faded in certain spots from time and use.
Sized at 43.5" inches in length x 34 inches in width, this could have been made for use as crib blanket, a child's trundle bed, or a lap blanket - a comforting cloth on cold day made up of cheerful colors and pretty patterns.
In need of some repair, this quilt has not been professionally cleaned due to the delicate nature of a few frayed squares that need a bit of repair. Out of the 221 squares that make up the total quilt, there are 10 that need some sort of repair, whether that is a few stitches to tuck a square back into place or a more complex repair to cover a small hole or rip in the fabric.
Because this quilt is almost 100 years old, we thought this might be a fun project for a quilter who has expertise in repairing vintage fabrics. That's really the best part of a quilt that gets passed down through generations - they become visual storybooks in and of themselves of all the sewers who have worked on them.
Just lovely for farmhouse decor, in addition to blanket purposes, this quilt would also look so pretty as a partial tablecloth on a long country farmhouse table or used as a lap blanket for outdoor dinners or picnics when the air begins to chill.

{CONDITION}
Please see condition notes above. There are a few light spots on the front of the quilt and several faded spots on the back. Overall this quilt is in lovely shape. The cotton fabric is soft to the touch and sturdy but also a bit delicate. All the threads are in place around the edges and there is no square in risk of falling off. Mostly of the 10 squares that need to be repaired - a simple stitch to secure them to the quilt is all they need. Please see all photos.
