Vintage 1930s Floral Porcelain Bread Plates Hand Painted by Meito China - Set of Four
{HISTORY}
There's a reason why Meito and Noritake dishware are always grouped together and often mistaken for one another at first glance. That's because the founder of Meito China, Kotaro Asuki, was a previous employee of Noritake and assumed many of the techniques and artistic proclivities with which he had become familiar during his time at Noritake.
Made in Japan in the 1930s, this set of vintage porcelain bread and butter plates features all the hallmarks of exquisite dishware that made Meito China synonymous with gorgeous design. Featuring a pale Tiffany blue stripe, hand-painted floral swags, mustard-shaded dots, and lacy grey stripes, this set of four is enhanced with a two-tone color palette of pale yellow and bright white that was very popular during the 1930s.
A pastel wonderland of vibrant and softly shaded hues, elegant and dainty, these plates were made for serving bread but their 6.5" inch diameter size allows for many serving possibilities beyond too. Here in the Vintage Kitchen, we love to use this size plate for small side salads, dessert, fresh fruit, appetizers and snack plates.
So pretty when paired with solid bright white, pale grey or ivory dishes, these four offer lots of mix-and-match potential. We also have other pieces in the shop available in this pattern, if you'd like to start building your own collection. Find them here.
