The Sebastiani Family Cookbook - Sylvia Sebastiani - 1980's Edition 8th Printing - Italian Recipes from California Wine Country
Sylvia's excellent suggestions for cooking meats, vegetables, soups, desserts are based on her long experience of being one of California wine country's best cooks... George Christy
{HISTORY}
For over 110 years, Sebastiani Vineyards has been producing award-winning wines in California's picturesque Sonoma County. Since it's inception in 1904, it was a family run business until the winery sold in 2008. Leaving behind an impressive legacy of wine making, started by one man, Tuscan immigrant Samuele Sebastiani, the family business traveled through three generations. Samuele's son Auguste and his wife Sylvia took over operation of the business from the 1940s to 1980. In addition to making great wine Sylvia and Auguste were also wonderful hosts, and Sylvia in-particular a remarkable cook. Utilizing recipes from her Italian heritage, old country techniques and a few modern interpretations, Sylvia prepared Italian feasts for family and friends that complimented the grapes they grew and the wine they made. In 1970, she published, at her friends and families request, a cookbook of everyone's most favorite dishes enjoyed around the table of Sebastiani Vineyards.
This is the 1980 edition of Sylvia's treasured recipes full of traditional Italian favorites highlighted with wine from her family's vineyards. Although Sebastiani Vineyards is no longer family-run, the wine is still produced and widely available, which makes this cookbook especially fun because Sylvia's wine pairings and recommendations are still relevant. A wonderful combination of California wine country and heirloom food, this is really fun cookbook for collectors, wine enthusiasts and California travel lovers.
While most of the recipes are centered around traditional Italian specialties, other recipes highlighting other cuisines from around the world are also included (French dressings, American salads, European desserts etc) as part of collection of good food that feeds a family, or augments a feast, or encourages a leisurely meal enjoyed by loved ones.
