The Redbook Cookbook is a veritable encyclopedia of up-to-date cooking knowledge, answering the cook's every question, whether she is confronting the kitchen for the first time or the ten-thousandth and needs fresh ideas and inspiration... (From the dust jacket)
{HISTORY}
Since it was first published in 1903 (then known as The Red Book), Redbook Magazine, strived to entertain, encourage and educate its audience when it came to literature, domestic affairs and wellness. Originally, the magazine appealed to both men and women thanks to its heavy focus on fiction, popular authors and emerging writers like F. Scott Fitzgerald, Dashiell Hammet and Edith Wharton. But over time, it eventually redefined its audience to young women, newlyweds, new moms, and young professionals.
By the time this cookbook was first published, in 1961, Redbook was at the height of its popularity. Boasting millions of subscribers, Redbook was considered a trusted source of relevant, useful information. Always focused on empowering women, the magazine's test kitchen set about creating a comprehensive cooking bible that would ensure success for both novice and experienced homecooks. Containing 1047 pages, and covering every aspect of the homecooking process from setting up a functional kitchen to nutrition market shopping to cooking, food presentation and cleanup the Redbook Cookbook succeeded in educating women about the modern mid-century culinary world.
