The Purity Cookbook - Purity Flour Mills Canada - 1945 Wartime Edition - WWII Era Cookbooks
Some women - and men as well - for that matter - posses such natural gifts that they are able to combine ingredients and produce perfection with a careless ease that arouses our wonder and admiration. Such accomplished cooks we cannot presume to advise here... (From the introduction...)
{HISTORY}
First founded in 1905, Purity Flour (named after the "pure white" flour they produced) rose to become the largest flour milling company in Canada. Operating around the clock, twenty four hours a day, in addition to flour the mill also produced Purity Oats, Hovis Flour and Pioneer Feeds. In 1932, they published the Purity Cook Book which featured a variety of recipes incorporating Purity products as well as hundreds of other complimentary recipes for all meals of the day. In 1937, the cookbook was revised to include more modern cooking techniques. Again in 1945, the cookbook was revised, this time to reflect more simple, economic fare appropriate for war-time cooking.
It is this 1945 war-time edition that is featured here. Beautifully presented and full of retro charm, this cookbook contains 875 recipes for a variety of meals including: sandwiches, cereals, candies, desserts, beverages, fish, meat, poultry, soup, salads, pickles, vegetables, canapes, rolls, pies, drinks, jams, jellies, preserves, puddings, muffins, icings, tarts, pies, breads, pastries, cookies and luncheon and supper dishes. Along the way, helpful tips and suggestions are included as well as detailed illustrations and color photographs.
