The Little Prince - Antoine De Saint-Exupery - 1980s Edition
It is only with the heart that one can see rightly: what is essential is invisible to the eye." Antoine de Sant-Exupery
{HISTORY}
And so begins the runaway classic, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery (1900-1944). First published in France in 1943, The Little Prince has appealed to readers young and old around the globe for almost 80 years, and in that time has never been out of print. Selling over 100 million copies since its initial debut, it is one of publishing history's most iconic success stories offering universal appeal and enlightenment on the wisdom of life.
This edition was published in the 1980s during a two-decade stretch when Harcourt Brace changed its name to Harcourt Brace Jovanovich. This book is additionally unique in that it carries with it a special scrapbook style aesthetic executed by a previous owner.
Taped within the front and back endpapers are newspaper and magazine promotional ads for film and movie versions of The Little Prince dating to the mid-1980s. There is also a hand-written quote from the book and a newspaper clipping of a book recommendation. Around here, we love personal touches like this. Classic stories affect readers in so many ways. It's interesting in this specific case, with this volume, to see how this story appealed to a previous reader in both film and book formats.
