"It has given me the excuse to spend hours with old recipe files and heirloom cookbooks, and the opportunity to "know" several fine home bakers of past generations from the recipes and baking notes they left behind." Nancy Baggett on writing The International Cookie Cookbook

{HISTORY}

Chocolate chip is always a winner, but if you are stuck in a baking rut and looking for a cookie recipe that's a little more out of the ordinary, than this is the cookbook for you.

No stranger to the culinary world, Nancy Baggett (b. 1943) has been a celebrated recipe contributor, cookbook author and teacher for over 40 years. Most well-known for her baking books, The International Cookie Cookbook debuted in 1988 shortly after Nancy took an intensive year-long pastry chef training course. Little did she know then, that it would set her on the path to baking bliss for decades after.

Marking the fifth book in her canon of work that would eventually include 20 cookbooks in total, The International Cookie Cookbook was the first of the cookie books that garnered her international attention and recognition.Selling over 100,000 copies, it was the precursor to her James Beard Award nominated All-American Cookie Book published in 2001.

Between these two cookbooks, Nancy shares hundreds of favorite classic cookie recipes that could easily keep you baking away in the kitchen for years. The International Cookie Cookbook features recipes from America and all corners of the globe complete with brief histories on what makes each specific cookie a traditional, cultural delight.

Interesting recipes (and the countries in which they come from) include Cornmeal Cookies (Mexico), Molasses Spice Cookies (Sweden), Peppernuts (Germany), Peanut Butter Sandies (United States), Almond Cookie Ring Cake (Denmark, Norway & Sweden), Nanaimo Bars (Canada), Lemon Tea Biscuits with Lemon Curd (England & Scotland), Ginger Thins (Finland), Cat's Tongues (Spain & France), Rum Butter Cookies (Hungary), Cinnamon Honey Cookies (Yugoslavia), Black Walnut Ice Box Cookies (United States), Hamantaschen (Israel), Anzac Biscuits (Australia & New Zealand), Cherry Half Moons (Sweden), Viennese Stamped Butter Cookies (Austria),  Glazed Sweet Pretzels (France) and Country Fair Cookies (Wales).

Beautifully photographed by Dennis M. Gottlieb, Nancy leaves no detail un-noted when it comes to preparing each recipe. A thorough recipe tester and a conscientious communicator, Nancy wanted to make sure that each recipe in her book was easy to follow and accurately described in order to ensure a successful baking endeavor each and every time. In addition to recipes, she also includes information on equipment needed (all very basic), helpful general baking tips, and pattern guides with dimensions for recipes that require specific shapes or folding techniques like the German Cookie House or the Scandinavian pretzel recipes.
