The Complete Home Handyman's Guide - Hubbard Cobb - 1948 Edition, 4th Printing
The real value of a home are love, security, understanding, and a place of refuge and retreat. Hubbard Cobb, 1963
{HISTORY}
Long before there was the internet, the diy channel, HGTV, Pinterest, fixer-upper shows, and a gazillion do it yourself blogs, there was Hubbard Cobb (1917-2006) - America's trusted resource for all issues pertaining to home and house improvement. An editor for Ladies Home Journal and American Home Magazine, in addition to being a popular writer of home improvement manuals, books, and newspaper columns, Hubbard understood the needs, desires, and skill level required in order to make one person's palace feel like paradise.
The author of several do it yourself books, Hubbard published The Complete Handyman's Guide in 1948. It covers just about every topic under the sun on how to care for a house in the post-war boom of homeownership. Everything from how to select the right paintbrush for the right job to how to build an in-ground pool are covered here. What is really fascinating about this book, apart from the wealth of information, is the opportunity we get to peek inside the woodshop world of the 1940s. To understand and learn about what tools and materials were available, what projects were considered practical and necessary, and what problems were arising for the average homeowner to tackle and address are really interesting topics to explore.
Fun for anyone who lives in a 1940's era house or loves vintage building projects, this book is a unique look at home in the middle decades of the 20th century.
