{HISTORY}

Primitive handmade charm and a bundle of possibilities overflow from this petite ash splint basket. Made in the classic basket weave style with an extra diagonal support rib included on the bottom, this basket measures 6.25" inches (length) x 6.5" inches (width) x 4.75" inches (height including handles) making it an ideal carrier for harvesting small vegetables, fresh eggs or cut flowers from the garden.  Indoors, it's also a handy size for corralling loose fruit on the counter, organizing pantry items, or displaying seasonal decor throughout the year.

Small enough to carry in one hand, but full of character given its two handle design, this basket adds instant rustic appeal and display possibilities to any table, cupboard, or picnic basket. Both a functional server and decorative holder, there is no end to the uses for a small basket like this.

With its open work bottom and well-made sturdy construction, its quite strong and can handle a variety of tasks. We love to use baskets of this size and shape for garden chores like carrying seed packets to and from the greenhouse, organizing garden gloves, and hand tools, and collecting herbs. In the kitchen, line it with a cotton cloth and it becomes a pretty server for rolls or cookies hot out the oven, and in the picnic basket it becomes a helpful little hamper for small food parcels.

It's tricky to pinpoint the exact age of a handmade basket, but this one features that lovely light fraying of the ash wood that signifies it's been around for a bit of time.
