Small French Metal Storage Tin - Quimper Pattern Made by Massilly
Oh if you could read my heart you would see the place that I keep you. Gustave Flaubert
Making beautiful storage containers in Eastern France since 1911, Massilly tins come in a wide variety of patterns, colors, shapes and sizes. This tin features their well-known Quimper design - a folk art depiction of a Breton couple that first appeared on tin-glazed pottery in the 1700s.
They are a sweet pair, this couple. She with her red floral bouquet and he with his bright blue coat. Many couples depicted in Breton art are young marrieds or couples courting, so this little tin has quite the romantic air to it.
Small in size, it's a lovely storage box (think coaster size) for small kitchen odds and ends and pantry staples. Or perhaps you are a baker and would like to deliver a little token of handmade joy to your sweetheart, then this tin turns into sentimental gift wrap and a cherished memory. With its blue sponging painting design around the rim of the lid, it is also a stylish decor piece that matches lots of blue and white kitchen decor from flow-blue antiques to primitive earthenware. Possibilities await!
- Colors include spring green, red, navy blue, black, lavender, coral, mustard, pale blue, avocado and bright white
- Stamped on bottom with maker's mark
In beautiful condition, this tin is bright, shiny and clean both inside and out. There are no rust spots except for two very small very light spots on the exterior bottom of the tin near the logo (please see photo). The lid fits securely on the base and is easily removable.
