Rare Antique Glass Tumbler Glasses - Northwood Plums and Cherries - Set of 4 - Circa 1906
He merely followed in their wake, a dark ragged figure guided by the blossoming plums. Toni Morrison
{HISTORY}This beautiful set of very rare antique glass tumblers was made by Northwood Glass Company in 1906. If you don't recognize Northwood by name, you'll know them by product as they were the manufacturers of Golden Iris carnival glass - those shimmery pieces of marigold colored glassware with the rainbow-like shine. In business from 1896-1925, in Indiana, PA, Northwood was an innovative company as far as colored glass design. Experimenting with all sorts of colors from green to purple to red to orange, they produced a variety of home decor items that were unique and visually interesting.
This set of plum and cherry tumblers was a spin-off from their Cherry & Cable pattern. The difference being the addition of plums on one side of the glass and cherries on the other. The fruit is raised from the sides of the glass and features plums that are purple in hue and cherries that are red in hue. The glasses are also adorned with gold leaves and a gold band. In addition to these fanciful designs, the glasses themselves also feature fluted cutwork on the sides and a sunburst pattern on the bottom.
Festive for year-round use, these would be especially lovely at Christmastime serving up red wine or festive holiday cocktails. There is something magical about the thought that these glasses will be celebrating their 112th holiday season this year!

{CONDITION}
In lovely antique condition. The color from the fruit is fading and/or worn in spots on all the glasses. There are a few very light scratch marks on the plum side but they are not very noticeable and all seem to be in the same spot - so this might have been an original design flaw. They are not cracks just surface scratches, as these glasses do not leak in any way. One of the glasses on the cherry side has a little bit of white glass spray on it, which looks like a series of little bubbles. Please see photos for condition details.
{SIZE}
Each tumbler measures 4.25" inches (height) with a 3" inch diameter at top and a 2.5" inch diameter at base.
{STYLE IDEA}
A true eye-catcher on the bar cart, it would be fun to show off the history of these beauties with your own cocktail concoction created just for you and your friends. Perhaps it involves cherries and plums or maybe a cordial of sort?!
