Pyrex Prize Recipes by Corning Glass Works - 1953 Edition
You have welcomed us into your homes. You have let us help with the cooking, the serving, and the storing of food... (from the Introduction)
{HISTORY}
Betty Crocker may have been the 20th century's most famous face in the kitchen, but Pyrex was its most famous bakeware. A beloved kitchen helper since the very first dish rolled off the production line in 1915, Pyrex has been a part of memorable meal-making in kitchens across the globe for over a century.
To celebrate the surge in popularity of Pyrex's colorful, newly launched midcentury designs, Corning Glass published a cookbook in 1953 chock full of favorite recipes ideally suited for Pyrex branded baking dishes, ovenware and mixing bowls. Detailing the different lines of Pyrex available (transparent ovenware, colored ovenware, stovetop flameware, and assorted dinnerware), Pyrex Prize Recipes offered a range of recipes that accommodated all hours of the day, dish, and destination.
Oven to table, fridge to freezer, table to fridge, fridge to oven, and round and round again and again, there was no question about it. Pyrex bakeware and their prize winning recipes were a perfect pair.
Covering all meals including teatime and snacks, this cookbook offers all the delights of the midcentury kitchen. Party foods, potluck fare, breakfast breads, holiday must-haves, and kid-friendly favorites are all featured here photographed with the corresponding Pyrex dish that makes them the most ideally suited to task while also being equally pretty for presentation.
Interesting recipes include homemade English Muffins, Chocolate Chiffon Cake with Mint Frosting, Lemon Fluff Pudding, Tuna Noodle Bake, Anna's Apple Pie, Roast Turkey with Celery Stuffing, Hot Potato Salad with Bacon, California Curry, Beef Stew, Onion Supreme, Oven Baked Spareribs, Nippy Cheese Souffle, Roast Beef with Vegetables, White Mound Cake with Comfort Frosting, Dixie's Orange Bread, Cinnamon Puffs, and Mulled Cider.
