{HISTORY}

Uniquely sized and shaped, this primitive handmade split oak basket features a decorative wide band in the center and a tall rectangular shape. Interestingly the shape is a bit of an optical illusion. While this basket looks like a tall rectangle, it is actually a square with dimensions that measure 11" inches (height) by 11" inches (width).

Although it can be difficult to tell the age of handmade baskets given their primitive nature, we are leaning towards antique status for this one given its dark color, light weight and unusual design. The thick wood band in the center looks to be a different type of hardwood than the split oak basket weave - perhaps maple or chestnut.

Beautifully constructed, this basket holds a wide variety of possibilities when it comes to function. Lovely for vegetable gathering in the garden, storage necessities in the pantry, an organizer in the kitchen,  or a laundry hamper for all your table linens and kitchen cloths, it is a cottage, country and farmhouse necessity that carries years of practical use in its pretty design.

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage/antique condition, this basket is strong and sturdy with no broken areas or loose pieces. The wood is sift and tightly woven. You'll notice in the photos a little of white staining on the wide band section. We suspect this might have been paint or some sort of rub mark caused by friction as it does not come off.
