{HISTORY}

No matter how old you are Golden Nature books enthrall. This one, Non-Flowering Plants was published in 1967 as part of a series of Golden Nature Guides that included a fascinating array of subject matters from stars to fossils, sea shells to butterflies. 

Non-Flowering Plants tackles the topics of mushrooms, algae, mosses ferns, and more helping naturalists to identify common varieties found around the U.S. while also providing brief notations on each plant.

One of the best aspects of this vintage Golden series is the colorful illustrations that accompany each page. Here, the edible blue-hued Violet Cortinarious mushroom blooms the color of night, the Pixie Cup lichens mirror alien shapes and the Giant Puffball Gasteromycete is nature's beach ball and weighs in at a magnificent 10lbs.

A majority of the book was illustrated by Dorothea Barlowe (1926-2021) - a well-known American artist whose career spanned fifty years. She illustrated a large variety of books, magazine articles, and visual aids all on the subject of nature for children and adults.

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition, this book is very clean and bright. The front cover contains a corner crease and there is some light foxing along the foredge but otherwise, it's in great shape. All pages are intact and the spine is tight.
