IF A HOUSE HAS CHARACTER, THE FACT IS OBVIOUS IMMEDIATELY. CLAUDE MONET'S HOUSE AT GIVERNY CERTAINLY DID, DOWN TO THE SMALLEST DETAILS OF ITS KITCHEN... CLAIRE JOYES

{HISTORY}

...and so begins a beautiful presentation of Claude Monet's house, gardens, and cooking prowess at Giverny in Normandy, France.  Written by Claire Joyes, the great-grandaughter-in-law of Monet's first wife, Camille-Leonie Doncieux, this vintage 1980s book shares intimate stories of the Monet family and the beloved French country estate they called home for over 40 years.

Part cookbook, part art history book, and part domestic memoir, Monet's Table shares all sorts of fascinating details about Claude's family and way of life including Claude's inspirations, the staff that ran his house, the family's appetite for rural country life, the renovation of the house and gardens, and the array of artists and influentials that came to visit on regular rotation to enjoy afternoon lunch.

Filled with colorful images of the house and gardens, black and white family portraits, samples of Monet's impressionist paintings, and lots of beautiful food photography, Monet's Table is a gorgeous work of art in and of itself.

Interesting recipes include Pickled Beef, Stuffed Eggplant, Stuffed White Onions, Savory Egg Custard with Tomato Sauce, Garlic Soup, Green Cake, Souffle Fritters, Brioche with green Plums, Banana Ice Cream, Rich Chocolate Cream and Apples with Pistachios
