{HISTORY}
A trusted authority on women's issues and interests since 1873, McCall's Magazine was always at the forefront of trends that appealed to American women whether it be cooking, household tips, fashion, or beauty. With 100 years of expertise, refinement, and understanding of the needs of their readership, they knew that American women during the 1960s were especially interested in glamour, travel, and entertaining at home. That translated to compiling as much information as possible when it came to style, both in clothing and home interiors.
In 1963, the editors of the magazine published McCall's Sewing Book, an all-inclusive compendium of sewing knowledge, methods and techniques geared toward novice and experienced sewers. Their goal was to create a tried and true book that anyone could refer to - a home sewer's bible of sorts - that could help with all matter of issues when it came to dressmaking, tailoring, mending, embroidering and home decorating. While a large majority of this book focuses on women's fashion, there is a big chapter towards the end that covers sewing projects for home decoration including how to make kitchen curtains and pillows.
A success from the start, McCall's Sewing Book was revised in 1968, which is this edition, with updated sizing charts, more up-to-date information on fabrics, and an extended glossary.
With illustrations on every page and helpful charts, diagrams, and sizing information this book became a trusted companion in the 1960s and is still revered by sewers today for its straightforward, practical, and easy-to-follow instruction.
Covering all matters of clothing design from simple alterations to making an entire outfit from scratch, all the basics needed to create glamorous, tailored, and figure-flattering midcentury fashion is here. Other interesting chapters dive into the world of fabrics - addressing the different ones that are most suitable for your sewing project, and how to set up your sewing station for success - including all the required gadgets that will help you along the way. House and human never looked more stylish!
