Along with two friends, Louisette and Simone (affectionately known as Simca) these three ladies managed to singlehandedly change the way American home cooks approached French food in the 1960s. Reprinted dozens of times, MTAOFC has sold millions of copies since it was first published in 1961. Ever since, decade over decade, it has remained a beloved staple in kitchens around the world. 

This edition is the first one, published in 1961, the one that started a love affair for generations of cooks and for generations of Julia fans that still has yet to subside today. Containing over 680 pages of sought-after recipes that have become "classic Julia" staples, this cookbook includes Boeuf Bourguignon, Mussels Steamed in Wine. Mushrooms Sauteed in Butter and Garlic, Custard Apple Tart,  Dessert Crepes, Clafoutis. So many of her superb signature specialties live here in this one volume. 

In absolutely beautiful condition, this book looks practically brand new except for the lightly faded spine and a previous owner's name written in ink on the front inside endpaper.  Our first First Edition of Mastering to the come to the shop, it's very exciting to think that this was the book that not only launched Juliai's career but also was the symbol of ten years of dedicated work between three women to ensure that cooks were set up for success.  This edition is illustrated throughout with drawings by Sidonie Coryn and includes Julia's lovely inscription... To La Belle France whose peasants, fishermen, housewives, and princes - not to mention her chefs - through generations of inventive and loving concentration have created one of the world's great arts.

{CONDITION}

In gorgeous vintage condition, this cookbook is very clean and bright throughout with no cooking spots, stains, or notations. The spine contains light fading and a previous owner's name is written in pen on the front end paper. The coverboards are very clean and bright, all pages are intact, and the spine is tight.
