Lois Lenski's Christmas Stories - 1968 First Edition - Children's Holiday Stories for the Whole Family
One of the best ways to fight evil is to spread beauty. Lois Lenski
{HISTORY}
Beloved twentieth-century children's book author and illustrator Lois Lenski (1893-1974) published this book of children's Christmas stories and poems in 1968. With equal talents in writing and drawing Lois' books were a joy to behold both visually and mentally. With a skill for research and realism, Lois strived to create stories and characters that kids could relate to. In doing so, she was keen on highlighting the different cultural backgrounds found throughout the United States in order to teach kids about universal understanding and acceptance.
In keeping with that theme, her book of Christmas Stories showcases a variety of colorful characters and how they celebrated the holiday in different ways depending on the region in which they lived. From a seaport town in New England to a busy urban city, a rustic woods setting to the Southern bayou, readers travel through the U.S. and through history with stories that keep the spirit of the season delightfully festive. For added fun, she introduces each story with a little background information learned through research or a memory or two culled from her own childhood. And then, dear illustration lovers, there are the drawings, which are lovely and hold so much charm, you can understand how and why Lois first wanted to be known as a professional artist and then a writer.
The recipient of numerous awards throughout her lifetime, Lois published more than 95 books throughout her career. What could be more fun than gathering up your little ones (or yourself!) for story time with Lois as the countdown to Christmas begins?! This book is a treat for all ages!
