Large Vintage Midcentury Brush Pottery Planter with 8 Inch Diameter
{HISTORY}
Oh for the love of autumn earth tones!
This vintage planter features a shade similar to nutmeg or chestnut with chocolate brown swirls. A complimentary color companion to a variety of green leafy house plants and succulents, this shade instantly warms a room and adds rustic appeal to a natural setting.
Made by Brush Pottery sometime between the 1960s - early 1980s, its classic wide mouth shape and short stature is ideal for a variety of interesting garden arrangments including an assortment of mini plants, a kitchen herb garden, any shallow-rooted greeneries or a collection of forced bulbs ready to bloom at a moment's notice.
Heavy and beautifully constructed, Brush Pottery operated between 1909 -1982 in Zanesville, Ohio and was known for all sorts of unique pieces and high-quality craftsmanship. They made all sorts of home decor pieces from planters like this one to jugs, vases, cookie jars, and figurines, and even partnered up with McCoy Pottery, a similar competitor to become Brush-McCoy between 1911 and 1925.
Big sellers during the mid-20th century, especially during the winter months from January - March, planters like this one helped soothe a gardener's spirit while waiting for spring and the excitement of outdoor planting adventures. It's fun to imagine all the different types of plants, flowers, and herbs this one might have hosted during the early months of all those years decades ago. Thyme and rosemary, amaryllis and paperwhites, African violets and maidenhair ferns, succulents in all sizes and shapes... the possibilities go on and on.
