Large 1930s Rose Swag Platter with Green Trim - Edwin Knowles circa 1932
sweet spring is your time is my time is our time... e.e.cummings
{HISTORY}
Made in Newell, West Virginia in 1932 during the state's highly productive dishware manufacturing days, this Edwin M. Knowles platter features pink rose swags and a decorative green edge.
Produced during the Great Depression, this platter was made just 11 years before the pottery's founder Edwin M. Knowles (1869-1943) passed away. From a family of dishware manufacturers, and a successful entrepreneur himself, Edwin founded his pottery in 1900. Operating until 1962, Edwin M. Knowles dishware was known for its strong durability and excellent finishes. This platter is a shining example of both.
Heavy (weighing in at 4 lbs.) and in beautiful shape, this large 17.5' inch server features clear transferware florals and a shiny glaze. Containing shades of celery green, light pink raspberry, and black, it's an ideal platter for the springtime table. Large enough to accommodate a glazed ham, spring brisket, or a colorful batch of pastel macaroons, it is fun to imagine all the different creative food choices that could accommodate such a beautiful dish. It's also fun to think that in just 16 years it will be celebrating its 100th year of elegant and still very functional tableside service.
