An icon in the kitchen since 1931.

Irma Rombauer published Joy of Cooking following the death of her husband when she was in her early 50s. People didn't necessarily know her for being an expert in cooking, although parties at her house were fun and delicious and she herself, a charming hostess. But when her husband committed suicide, Irma was left to fend for herself and fund the rest of her life, so she got to work on writing a cookbook of cooking... techniques, recipes, and equipment. It quickly became the bible of all home cooks, novice and professional, and launched a career for Irma that made her world famous. 

Since its debut, Joy of Cooking has been revised and enhanced by generations of the Rombauer family to keep the information current and up to date for today's food makers. Since its debut, Joy of Cooking has sold over 18 million copies worldwide and remains one of the most beloved cookbooks of all time, not only for its concise instruction but also its wealth of good recipes.  This is the 1980 edition - the 20th printing of the 1975 edition, co-authored by Irma's daughter, Marion.

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition, this cookbook is clean and bright throughout. There are some light cooking splatters and stains on the fore edge and minor wrinkling of some pages. A random cooking spot can be found on a few pages and some notations on certain recipes can be found in the baking section. There is a small tear in the exterior binding at the spine crease that measures 1" inch in length but does affect the interior binding. The ribbon markers have faded over time to a light coral from their original bright red. The spine is tight, the coverboards are very clean, and all pages are intact.

Measures 7" inches (width) x 9.5" inches (length) x 2" inches (depth) and weighs 3.2lbs.
