Improved Puritan Cook Book - Sears, Roebuck and Co. Cooking Booklet circa 1926
The old-fashioned Chopping Bowl and Knife method of preparing meals is tiresome, noisy, slow and out of date. In the preparation of nearly every meal something has to be chopped, and by the use of the Puritan Chopper the world can be done easily, quietly, quickly and with satisfactory results. (Introduction to the Puritan Food Chopper Cooking booklet, 1926)
{HISTORY}
In the 1920s, Sears, Roebuck, and Company debuted their Puritan line of homewares, which ran the gamut from all types of functional domestic items to clothing. One of the most popular aspects of this brand was the kitchenware line that included a bevy of cast iron products like ranges, pots, and pans, and the revolutionary Puritan Food Chopper.
A prequel to our modern day food processor, the Puritan Food Chopper was the early 1900s effortless kitchen helper. It clamped itself to the edge of a tabletop and got to work grinding, slicing, chopping, and grating its way to food prep paradise. Manually operated by a simple turn of a crank, the chopper was easy to use, easy to clean, and very efficient for all types of meal prep.
In order to highlight the vast possibilities available to home cooks when it came to using this special type of equipment, Sears Roebuck, and Co. published this fifty-four-page Puritan Cook Book full of year-round recipes covering lunch, dinner, and dessert. The Puritan Cook Book was reprinted several times throughout the 1920s and 1930s. This edition was printed in August 1926 and includes a handwritten recipe (written in pencil) by a previous owner in the memorandum section at the back.
Additional photo includes a 1930s Sears Roebuck & Co. advertisement for the chopper.
