Henry Alken Fishing Print circa 1960s - Fishing In A Punt
{HISTORY}
Fishing never looked so elegant when it comes to this trio and their stylish attire. Clad in top hats and colorful frock coats, this fishing portrait was originally painted in 1820 by renowned English artist, Henry Thomas Alken (1785-1851). This particular print was made in Germany in 1960 in large format folio size for the Societe Nouvelle des Editions du Chene in Paris and is gorgeously reproduced on textured paper with beautiful bright colors and crisp detailing.
A handsome addition to your space, we are particularly fond of prints like these in the bar cart area as the colors in the landscape compliment all the woodsy, dark shades of whiskey and wine, brandy, and rum.
Henry was born to an artistic family of painters in Westminster, England. He began his career as a miniaturist but eventually settled on large sporting scenes as a favorite genre. Prolific throughout his life, he also passed on his painting talents to two of his children continuing a long line of artistic merit within the Alken family. His portrait, sketched by Walter Gibley, is included here for historical interest.
