{HISTORY}

In an effort to offer cookbooks from all cuisines around the globe, we are pleased to add Russia to our vintage cookbook collection courtesy of a vintage British cookbook author, who also happened to be the wife of a documentary filmmaker. 

Introduced to Russian culture and cooking while living abroad in Europe, this collection of authentic heritage recipes was compiled by British cookbook author Beryl Gould-Marks in 1963. It contains favorites contributed by her Russian friends, her Russian house cook, and the many Russian chefs and home cooks who opened up their kitchens to her along her many international travels. 

Influenced by the geographical location of Russia and also its seasons, this cookbook contains all the traditional foods that Russia is known for plus interesting information on cooking and dining experiences that Beryl herself documented with an outsider's keen eye for observation and understanding. 

Brightly colored borscht, blinis, pirozhki, pojarski, and koulibiaki mingle with chapters on vodka, caviar and Easter eggs to provide a well-rounded experience of Russia's unique culinary repertoire - one that draws influences from the Scandinavian, Turkish, and Asian cultures. 

In addition to the traditional foods mentioned above interesting recipes include Festival Pancakes, Bitok, Sharp Red Cabbage, Rhubarb Kissel with Cardamom, Sauerkraut with Dried Mushrooms, Paska, Roast Goose Stuffed with Apples, Poor Man's Purses, Pike with Beer, Potato Dumplings, Stuffed Fresh Haddock Rolls, Eggplant Caviar, Cabbage Tart, Black Sea Pilaf, Smetanik, Berries a la Romanoff and Irinka's Chestnut Sweet.

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition. The dust jacket bears a few chippy spots along the top and bottom edge and a light tanning mark on the right side of the front cover. The coverboards and interior pages are clean and bright and free from spots, stains and notations. There is an original Bloomingdale's price sticker on the inside jacket flap. The spine is tight and all pages are intact.
