Each step of the pie-making process from crust to final flourishes are discussed in making this book helpful for beginning bakers. 160 pages of fillings, flavor pairings and presentation suggestions also make this book equally interesting and inspiring for the experienced baker too, meaning there is something for everyone here no matter what your skill level or flavor preference. Can there ever be too much pie or too much discussion of pie? The cover boards and interior illustrations were done by Wilson McLean who was a prolific award winning illustrator during the 20th century. Originally from Scotland, he landed this Betty Crocker job a few years after he moved to New York City in the mid-1960s. That’s when artistic competition in the city was fierce and he really had to figure out his own unique style. This cookbook job became a proving ground for what set him apart from all the others. So it’s an especially great in that regard. The gang at Betty Crocker not only liked good food but good art as well!

In good vintage condition, this cookbooks is clean and bright with the exception of a few random cooking stains and some minor wrinkling of a few pages. The first page near the bottom has become partially separated from the spiral binding (please see photos).
