{HISTORY}

Like a setting straight out of a Jane Austen novel, this ironstone cup and saucer set was made by W. Adams and Sons, one of England's oldest dishware makers. Dating all the way back to the 1600's, W. Adams was a family run pottery that was passed down through the same family for generations spanning the 1700s, 1800s and 1900s. 

This two-handled soup cup and saucer duo was made in the 1920's for the pattern known as Old English Rural Scenes, which also came in other color variations including blue and green. Featuring a bucolic scene complete with a menagerie of animals, a beautiful shepherdess and a rambling country cottage, this pattern also included a dynamic checkered design and a ruffled embossed edge adding additional charm and unique character to its overall style. Just as pretty on the bottom of the dishes as on the top, each piece also contains exquisite makers marks.

{CONDITION}

In lovely antique condition. There are two very tiny (barely noticeable) chips on the rim of the soup cup (please see photos) and gorgeous delicate crazing lines on the cup. There is a small patch of light staining on the inside of the soup cup near the floral imagery.

The cup measures 3.75" inches in diameter x 5" inches in length (handle to handle) x 2.25" inches (height).
