{HISTORY}

Delightfully part of everyday living, this antique shaving mug is an intimate glimpse into the grooming life of the Victorian man. Made in Germany and imported to the US around the early 1900s, this porcelain mug was inscribed with the words Remember Me on the front signifying that it was most likely made for the gift market, as opposed to a personalized mug that might have hung in the barbershop for a specific customer.

A sweet token to a husband, father, brother or beau this shaving mug most likely was gifted during the holiday season since it contains a raised design of holly leaves and berries. The pale green lusterware rim adds a handsome bit of festive color to the overall gold and white palette making it not only a thoughtful present but a gift that could be used year in and year out no matter what the season.

It's fun to think how this little character might have made an appearance in the kitchen or cooking spaces of long-ago America. Perhaps it sat on a ledge near the stove or a shelf near the water pump for easy access and use. Maybe it hung from a hook by the washstand or sat inside the cupboard of a chiffarobe ready at a moment's notice. In any case, hopefully through the years, it served its purpose not only as a reminder of someone who was loved but also as a symbol of someone who loved.
