{HISTORY}

Uniquely sized dishes always come in handy more often than you might initially imagine. This antique porcelain server is long and narrow, originally intended to serve long and narrow vegetables like asparagus or celery, whole carrots, or corn on the cob.

Nowadays it's a great size and shape for use as a fruit basket, table centerpiece display, bread basket, or a holder for flatware on the party buffet table. With its beautiful fruit pattern of grapes and pears surrounded by a ring of trailing ivy, it's perfectly shaped to hold an arrangement of flower bulbs or a bouquet of greenery for holiday display. Here in the Vintage Kitchen, we also love this shape for wall display since it fits well in cozy areas between cabinets and counters or over doorframes.

Unmarked as to maker or manufacturer, it is unknown where this piece was made but most likely it dates to the late 1800s to early 1900s, back when every dish on the Victorian table had a specific point and purpose.

Swirls of embossing around the rim and at each end compliment the fruit motif adding an array of visual interest from each angle. Colors include mulberry, red grape, orchid, sage, champagne, soft yellow, pine green, bayberry, terracotta, rust, dark apricot, chocolate, olive green, and lavender.

{CONDITION}

In good antique condition, this dish is over 100 years old and therefore shows some signs of age and adventure. There are no chips or cracks except for one hairline crack near the corner of one side of the dish near a pair pf pears. The crack measures 2" inches in length, extends to the rim, and is visible on both sides, but color-wise blends in well with the pears it touches. There are two small dimple marks on the bottom of the bowl to the left of the pear and grapes that have discolored with age. Other than that, this bowl is in lovely shape with bright colors and pretty embossing.

{SIZE}

Measures 14.5" inches (length) x 6.5" inches (width) x 1.5" inches (height) and weighs  1.5 lbs
