{HISTORY}

Like a breath of fresh springtime air, this set of antique Noritake dishes features a colorful array of flowers, bands of the brightest green color (like watermelon!) and stylish black art deco details. Known as the Leandro pattern, this design was made in Japan between 1921-1924 as indicated by each plate's backstamp. 

It's always very fun to trace the history of vintage and antique Noritake because their backstamps and pottery marks have changed so much over the course of two centuries as the company evolved into a worldwide brand. This set features the laurel wreath mark with the M in the middle which stands for the Morimura Brothers who originally started the pottery in 1889. Back then it when it was simply known as Nippon - the name of the region where the dishes were made. 

Since those early days, artisans for Nippon (and then Noritake) have always focused on fine craftsmanship, gorgeous color arrangements, and exquisite designs. That attention to detail and level of commitment led Noritake to become one of the most celebrated and sought-after dishware brands in the world, still to this day internationally recognized for quality and luxury. 

Now a hard-to-find pattern, these dishes are made of porcelain and feature a two-tone color palette with a bright white center and an ivory rim. Paired with the additional colors of tomato, lemon, watermelon, bamboo, lime, bluebell, pink, raspberry, black and gold this set offers endless styling options when it comes to table setting. Cheerful for springtime holidays like St. Patrick's Day and Easter, it will look just as stunning on your Christmas table.  It also pairs really well with other vintage and antique Noritake patterns from the 1920s and 1930s thanks to similar color arrangements and designs.

{CONDITION}

In bright and colorful condition, these plates contain no chips or cracks, but there are some rub marks in some areas around the inner green band. Due to the arrangement of the patterns, this is not very noticeable and does not detract from the overall beauty of the plates in any way. Please see photos.
