{HISTORY}

A gorgeous combination of dainty hand-painted flowers in an array of bright colors, there is a rainbow of shades to work with here when it comes to creatively styling a table of vintage and antique aesthetics.

Made by Noritake between 1918-1940, this matching set of four porcelain dessert plates features a big bouquet of colorful flowers at the center, a floral rim with a canary yellow band, and black and white bell-shaped flowers around the edge.

At a quick glance, those bell-shaped flowers look like butterflies, and in collaboration with the center florals, these plates contain all sorts of exotic appeal.

Featuring shades of blueberry, amethyst, bubblegum, brick, and spring green, each plate is slightly different due to its hand-painted nature.

It's always fun to trace the history of vintage and antique Noritake.  Their backstamps and pottery marks have changed so much over the course of two centuries as the company evolved into a worldwide brand. This set features the laurel wreath mark with the M in the middle, which stands for the Morimura Brothers who originally started the pottery in 1889. Back then, it was simply known as Nippon - the name of the region where the dishes were made.

Since those early days, artisans for Nippon (and then Noritake) have always focused on fine craftsmanship, gorgeous color arrangements, and exquisite designs. That attention to detail and level of commitment led Noritake to become one of the most celebrated and sought-after dishware brands in the world. Still to this day, they are internationally recognized for quality and luxury.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

  • Matching set of four
  • Stamped on back with maker's mark

{CONDITION}

In beautiful antique condition, these plates contain no chips or cracks except for one small chip measuring 1/8th inch in length on the back of one plate at the rim. This chip is not noticeable from the front. The gold stripe around the rim's edge is wearing in some spots, but this is hardly noticeable given the bright yellow color palette of the hand-painted band around the edge. Please see photos.

{SIZE}

Each plate measures 7.25" inches in diameter and weighs 8 oz
