{HISTORY}

Made in the shared pottery space known as Dale Hall in Burslem, England by Maddock & Co between 1876-1903, this ironstone chamber pot features an all-white color palette and a simple scallop and leaf design around the rim and the handle.

While most chamber pots were initially intended for use in private rooms of the house, nowadays they are fantastic helpers in the kitchen. We love to incorporate them as daily holders for food scraps bound for the compost pile.

Prettier than a plastic bucket or a garbage can, they can sit on the counter during food prep time and catch all the daily peelings, cores, shells, seeds, pits, coffee grounds, tea bags, and other natural materials discarded from the day.  Easily transported out to the compost area, thanks to the sturdy handle, a quick wash back inside gets it all ready again for the next cooking adventure.

Another pretty way to incorporate a chamber pot into your kitchen decor is to use it as a pot holder for a variety of herbs or succulents. Big enough in diameter to hold four 3" inch herb pots or up to ten  2" inch succulent pots there is lots of room for creativity when it comes to plant choice and arrangement.

Gardening dreams aside, they also make great holders for kitchen towels, wash vessels for delicate linens, and vases for fresh-cut flowers.
