{HISTORY}

Dating to 1913 or perhaps a little bit before, this antique place setting featuring a dinner plate, luncheon plate and a bread plate was made by Johnson Bros pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, England. With bright green floral transferware the color of cucumbers, an embossed rim, and splashes of handpainted gold, this pattern was known as The Florentine. Gorgeous from all angles, this delicate almost paper-thin dishware features a scalloped edge, raised embossing around the rim, and a gorgeous lace-like aesthetic when combined together. 

What began in England in 1883 as a venture between four brothers, Johnson Brothers pottery grew quickly into success with the manufacture of whiteware and semi-porcelain. With a big fan base located in the U.S .the brothers also set up shop in New York City where a number of their pattern lines reigned supreme throughout the 20th century.

Although Johnson Bros was prolific in their dishware manufacture, amassing a large portfolio of pretty dishware during the 19th and 20th centuries, nowadays this Florentine pattern is very hard to find. Made when the pottery was just a couple of decades old, it's fascinating to think that these dishes came to life just before WWI. Given the rarity of the set itself, these plates now act like a gorgeous calling card from the past and are a beautiful example of refined eating and entertaining.

Especially beloved for holiday table settings thanks to its bright green and gold color palette, this trio offers the added joy of not only serving a single dinner guest but also can moonlight as petite serving trays for hors d'oeuvres or desserts at your next party.

{CONDITION}

In gorgeous condition, these plates contain no chips, cracks or stains with the exception of one tiny chip on the front of the dinner plate near the rim. The chip measures 1/4" inch by 1/4" inch and is barely visible thanks to the pattern on the plate itself. Please see photos.
