{HISTORY}

Aged to perfection, this antique Edwin M. Knowles platter celebrates its 105th birthday this year.

With its delicate crazing lines, soft staining, and festive gold garlands, it's a jubilant celebration of centenarian beauty that adds an instant aged aesthetic to any tabletop or wall display.

Based in West Virginia from 1900-1963, Edwin M. Knowles made some of the prettiest dishware in the country with patterns that were colorful, feminine, and visually striking. This charmer, with its simple gold and ivory color palette and lacy floral garland, is a lovely example of the pretty style that the pottery was known for.

Made in January 1921, this platter saw the year unfold in a number of remarkable ways. Warren G. Harding became the 29th president, Charlie Chaplin entertained moviegoers at the box office, the first Lowe's home improvement store opened, the Pirates vs. the Phillies captivated listeners on the first baseball game radio broadcast, and White Castle burgers opened in Wichita, Kansas, marking them the first fast food restaurant in the world. Thinking about how this platter served up not only hundreds of dishes during its first year but also was a part of hundreds of pop culture conversations during mealtimes, it's fun to imagine all the history that it has lived through between then and now.

Easy and effortless when it comes to mixing and matching with other antique and vintage dishware, this platter is especially pretty at holiday time thanks to its shimmery gold garland and swag-style pattern.
