{HISTORY}

Delicate in pattern but substantial in weight, this 14-inch antique platter was made by Anchor Pottery in Trenton, New Jersey between 1884 and 1926. 

Featuring swags of pink roses accented with a celadon and aqua diamond-shaped border, this platter emotes a little bit of a decorative jewelry vibe, with patterns and styles that mirror pendant necklaces and classic bracelet designs.  A statement piece for the wall just as much as for the table, it's a vibrant arrangement that is at once understated but also visually interesting.  Pair it with an all-white ironstone collection, and you have a standout beauty that adds a dab of color to your arrangement. Mix and match it with other antique dishware in similar color palettes, and your table comes alive with unique stories from history.  

Anchor Pottery wasn't in business for very long, but while it operated, it made quite an impression both in its manufacturing plant and its finished products. The pottery itself was described in 1900 as being "one of the largest and best planned and equipped plants in the country," and employed over 250 workers.

Founded by Israel Lacey in 1884, Anchor Pottery operated along the Delaware Canal, making dinnerware, sanitary ware, and other ceramics for domestic use in both the U.S. and international markets.  They were part of a long line of successful potteries that operated in what would become one of the two largest ceramics hubs in the U.S. Eventually purchased by the Grand Union Tea Company, Anchor Pottery closed in 1926, but thankfully their beautiful pieces continue to live on, highlighting history and adding delight to interior spaces.

{CONDITION}

In beautiful antique condition, this platter does not contain any cracks, chips, spots or stains. There are two tiny lumps,  one a pencil-point-size brown dot on the front of the platter at one end, and the other a small raised bump on the front rim. Both are under the glaze, most likely flaws in the manufacturing process, and do not affect the platter in any way. The floral transferware is in beautiful shape, and the colors are bright and vibrant.
