{HISTORY}

Close to 100 years ago this petite sugar bowl was hand-painted in the bustling city of Nagoya, Japan by artisans of Tashiro Shoten Ltd. In operation from the 1930's-1954, Tashiro's dishware production must have been precarious as the city of Nagoya was consistently bombed during WWII, making this sugar bowl a lucky survivor not only of history but also of artistic endurance and perseverance despite difficult times.

Originally this sugar bowl was most likely came with a matching lid. Somewhere during his journey through the decades the lid went its own way. Fortunately that loss is our gain, as this pretty little dish now offers new purposes in the decorating department. As a holder for small items or slender tools like paint brushes or cheese knives or similiar shaped kitchen objects, therea re plenty of ways to incorporate this colorful character into your kitchen.  One of our most favorite ways is to repurpose it is as a planter for succulents or air plants. The brightly hued floral design, which differs on both sides, instantly adds a bit of colorful style to your space and creates a happy haven for your mini garden while keeping your plant life interesting, tidy and totally unique.
