{HISTORY}

The Sheffield Silver Company was founded in Brooklyn, NY in 1908. They created a range of silver serving pieces that included coffee and tea sets, trays, platters and tableware. In 1974 they were acquired by Reed and Barton, a centuries old American silversmith who operated from 1824-2015 In Taunton, MA

This vintage, possibly antique Butler's tray is marked with the Sheffield stamp on back along with the numbers 5/252. 252 stands for the style of the tray and the number 5 might be a date code reference. In the 1960's Sheffield was producing 252 trays but they were marked with the number 13/252, which leads us to believe that this tray marked with the number 5 was from a much earlier decade.

This butler tray is unique in the fact that is monogrammed with the letter K, which gives us a little hint at its past owners. Is it K for Kennedy or Karl or Kavanaugh? Maybe its K for Kelly or Kardashian or Korbel. The fun is in the guessing at who might have owned this beauty and when.

Made of electroplated copper, it is in a gorgeous tarnished state, which adds lots of character. If you prefer it a little more on the shiny side, careful cleaning with silver polish will brighten it up, but around here we are always fans of natural aging and authentic patina, so it is listed here as is.
